NR4A-family (NR4A1/NR4A2/NR4A3) gene and protein expression for the different study arms placebo (PLA), salbutamol (SAL), formoterol (FOR) as well as salbutamol + formoterol (SAL + FOR). (Top) Microarray analysis revealed increased relative expression of NR4A2 for FOR and SAL + FOR compared to PLA, while SAL treatment resulted in decreased NR4A1 expression. (Middle) Although the gene expression of the medication SAL, FOR and SAL + FOR was higher than PLA (normalized to 1) for all NR4As, no statistically significant difference was determined. (Bottom) Protein expression did not differ between the study arms for NR4A1 and NR4A3. NR4A2 protein was not detected in the muscle samples. *All data are presented as mean standard deviation.
